Today's half-day in-service for the staff was presented by Joe McQueen, the author of Calming Young Minds: Understanding Mental Health, De-Escalation, Trauma and Restorative Practices in Teens. He brought us simple approaches to comforting kids who are feeling big emotions.

We added a little safety work to our half-day today. The kids did an excellent job practicing their bus evacuation procedures. A big thank you to my 8th-grade leaders for helping others out of the bus.

scoopie night

With the help of our 6th grade friends and Ms. Woodsides, 1st graders were able to make a model of the digestive system to go along with their unit on the human body.

They modeled eating food, added "stomach acid" to help with digestion, filtered it through the small intestine, and of course took out the trash through the large intestine.

Our little bulldogs are so lucky to have great junior high students to learn from.

What is World Teachers Day you ask? The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization proclaimed October 5 to be World Teachers’ Day in 1994. They chose October 5th because it was on this date in 1966 when a significant step was made for teachers in 1966. A special intergovernmental conference in Paris adopted the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. The Recommendation sets benchmarks regarding teachers’ rights. It also sets standards for teacher training, employment, and teaching and learning conditions. Teachers are indeed important to the building of societies all over the world. Thank you for all you do.

Golden Dog Paw Alert: Roman Munden was presented with a Golden Dog Paw today for his selfless behavior at school. Roman is happy to go last in the line if it means he can help everyone else out first. He can also be seen playing with kids who don't always have someone to play with. He has a big heart and an easy choice for these raw dog paws. Congratulations Roman!
